Tonight, after 26 hours on planes and an uncomfortable night at the airport before that, I am home.
Home.
It feels different than it ever has before, and it feels the same too.
Home is
that familiar Texas twang on the airport intercom announcements
understanding the vast majority of the conversations going on around me
my sweet parents waiting for me in the arrivals lobby
salad. With lettuce!
sharing music on the drive home from Houston. Knowing which way we're going.
the luscious scent of loquat flowers in the driveway. the feeling of cool spring night air on my face
my room, which always looks best in the lamplight
photos and articles saved for me by my dad
mint from the garden tea
a warm bath in the tub I've known my whole life
a closet full of clean dresses that I've missed for months
my desk, my sewing machine, my paints, and beads, and baskets, and yarns, and books, and stones, and...
laying under the first quilt I ever made.
I think I may get sad about leaving India, but tonight it feels so perfect to be right here.
I have a few more posts to upload now that I'm back in the land of fast wifi, so bear with me for a couple stragglers. And who knows what comes after that...
